Read the sheet in order

Separate scaling errors from printer-output errors.

A print that is the wrong physical size invalidates the rest of the comparison. Confirm scale first, then isolate continuity, fine-detail, spacing, and density behavior one variable at a time.

Measure 50 mm

If the reference line is not exactly 50 mm, fix Fit/Shrink/Crop or other print scaling before evaluating line quality.

Check long lines

Look for missing segments, repeated banding, waviness, or directional skew that appears across a large part of the page.

Compare stroke reproduction

The ladder gives fixed physical marks. Record where your current printer and paper begin to lose consistency instead of guessing from one client stencil.

Watch negative space

Narrow gaps expose over-dark output quickly. If clean digital channels close only on paper, troubleshoot the print path before adding more stencil cleanup.

Inspect counters and dots

Small enclosed spaces and isolated marks reveal two opposite failures: filling-in and disappearing detail.

Stress the dark edge

The solid black field tests whether heavy output contaminates nearby fine structure. Compare repeated sheets after changing only one setup variable.

What this tool does not decide

Use the sheet as a baseline, not a tattoo rulebook.

Printer, transfer paper, power, density settings, maintenance, stencil structure, and final tattoo size all interact. A universal numeric pass score would hide those differences rather than help you diagnose them.

The stroke widths on the PDF are printed test geometry, not needle groupings or tattooing recommendations. Use them only to compare what the printer reproduces.

If a specific machine requires a loading direction, media mode, darkness setting, cleaning procedure, or jam-clearing sequence, follow the manufacturer instructions for that printer and the transfer paper you use.
