Live stencil preview

From wording to transfer

Choose by the lettering job, not by a thousand-font wall.

The library is intentionally curated around lettering traditions artists actually use. Every adjustment stays visible against a clean paper field, and physical size is treated as part of the design rather than an afterthought in the printer dialog.

01

Type once

Your wording updates across every font preview immediately, so you compare the actual name, date, or phrase instead of generic alphabet specimens.

02

Compare at one width

Pin up to three candidates and compare them at the same target width. The decision is visual and physical, not based on arbitrary font-size numbers.

03

Shape the stencil

Adjust letter and word spacing, choose straight, arc, or vertical construction, and switch between filled and outline output without leaving the editor.

04

Export for the next step

Download SVG or transparent PNG, or produce a true-size PDF with paper tiling and a 50 mm scale check for the physical print path.

Curated, not generic

Open fonts, selected for real tattoo-lettering directions.

The first library covers flowing script, fine monoline lettering, Old English / Blackletter, readable gothic display, traditional / Western lettering, bold swash forms, and Roman capitals for dates and memorial work. Font families are open-licensed and loaded only to render the lettering; your wording and edits are not sent to the font provider.

StencilStudio deliberately avoids calling ordinary decorative script “Chicano” simply to create a category. A dedicated West Coast / Chicano lettering collection should only appear when both the stylistic review and redistribution rights are strong enough.

The tool also keeps the lettering workflow separate from the AI stencil generator. Using a deterministic lettering utility does not bypass or shorten the existing Generate onboarding.

Already have finished artwork?

Print any stencil at an exact size.

The dedicated Size & Print Calculator accepts an existing stencil image, measures the design bounds, and prepares a true-size tiled PDF.

Need artwork, not lettering?

The lettering tool stays instant and deterministic. For photo or reference conversion, use the full StencilStudio Generate workflow and its existing onboarding.

FAQ

Practical lettering questions.

Yes. The lettering tool is free, does not require an account, and performs its editing and export work in your browser.

The initial library is deliberately curated rather than huge. It includes open-licensed script, Old English, gothic, traditional, Western, swash, and Roman options selected for common tattoo-lettering jobs such as names, dates, memorial text, banners, and short phrases.

Yes. Set the target width in centimeters or inches, then export a true-size PDF for A4, US Letter, or A3. Large lettering can be split across overlapping pages. Measure the included 50 mm scale check before using a transfer.

Yes. Mirror for transfer is a visible toggle in the editor, and the preview is clearly labelled while the mirrored orientation is active.

Yes. SVG export preserves the active lettering style and attempts to package the loaded webfont data with the file, so the artwork remains portable when the browser can access the font resource.

StencilStudio does not label ordinary calligraphy as authentic Chicano lettering just because it is decorative script. A dedicated Chicano / West Coast category should only be added when the font selection has been reviewed for stylistic fit and the licensing is appropriate for redistribution.
