Regulatory readiness

What regulatory path must I verify before I assume I can tattoo at this event?

Event permit path

The state publishes a temporary-event permit route. Confirm it covers this event.

Event location: Tampa, FL. Florida licensing is the state starting point.

Event-specific steps recorded

  • Florida Tattoo Artist License or Guest Tattoo Artist Registration before tattooing at the event
  • Government-issued photo ID for a Florida guest registration
  • Active out-of-state tattoo credential for artists using Florida's guest-registration route
  • Bloodborne-pathogen and communicable-disease training accepted by Florida

Booth approval from Villain Arts is not a tattoo permit. A city, county or state can separately require a license or temporary permit to tattoo at this event.

Application terms for this event.

Tampa Tattoo Arts Convention is selectable in Villain Arts' current booth-holder registration form. Shared organizer policy

What the event asks from artists.

These requirements are set by Villain Arts and apply across its events, not only to this city. Confirm the current terms with the organizer.

  • At least 2 years of tattoo-shop experience for Villain Arts artist approval
  • A solid tattoo portfolio for Villain Arts artist approval
  • Completed tattoo apprenticeship for Villain Arts artist approval

After acceptance

  • Florida Tattoo Artist License or Guest Tattoo Artist Registration before tattooing at the event

  • Active out-of-state tattoo credential for artists using Florida's guest-registration route
  • Bloodborne-pathogen and communicable-disease training accepted by Florida

Licenses and permits

Check the event rules and the local tattoo requirements.

Florida separates the artist credential from the event-site permit. An out-of-state artist with an active tattoo credential generally uses the Guest Tattoo Artist Registration, currently $35 and valid for up to 14 consecutive days. If your home jurisdiction does not issue an artist credential, Florida directs you to the regular Florida Tattoo Artist License instead.

The event promoter must obtain the Temporary Tattoo Establishment License and Biomedical Waste Generator Permit from the county health department at least 30 days before the event. Every artist still needs a Florida tattoo artist license or guest registration. Confirm your individual registration separately from the promoter's event permit.

Booth approval and legal permission to tattoo are separate. Use the state guide as a starting point, then follow the event-specific regulator or organizer filing above.

Known costs not included in the booth figure

  • Local location, establishment and artist license or permit fees required by the health authority
  • $35 Florida Guest Tattoo Artist Registration where applicable; county fees can vary
